Peanut Allergy Aware Baseball Game!

This is from my food allergy advocate friend Cindy Paskey who tells me these tickets are still available but going fast! Thanks Cindy!

Thank you to the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club.

Canada's only major league baseball franchise is offering a Peanut/Nut Reduced Zone at Rogers Centre for three separate dates during the 2008 Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Season:

Saturday, June 7, 2008 Jays vs Orioles Executive Lounge start time: 1:07 p.m.

Saturday, July 26, 2008 Jays vs Mariners Executive Lounge start time: 1:07 p.m.

Saturday, August 9, 2008 Jays vs Cleveland Executive Lounge start time: 1:07 p.m.

This opportunity results from the combined efforts of Will Hill, Director of Guest Services and Fan Experience and Mark Lazaruk, Account Manager/Group Development. Will Hill and Mark Lazaruk have worked in partnership with Debbie Bruce and Cindy Paskey. Both women are long-time advocates for risk reduction and increased safety for people at risk of anaphylaxis - a potentially life threatening allergic reaction.

For the above three dates, a specific section of the stadium will be cleaned in advance and devoted to the exclusive use of families who live with peanut/nut and other severe allergies. "We believe everyone should be able to participate in watching North America's favourite summer sport. Quite simply, people with peanut/nut allergies can be included!" says Mark Lazaruk. Mark has orchestrated all of the "behind the scenes" requirements.

Tickets are $35 per person, and families are allowed to bring their own food into the designated Executive Lounge.

Everyone is advised that the Rogers Centre continues to offer peanuts in the shell as a regular menu item. The Executive Lounge is devoted to a peanut/nut reduced Zone for the above dates only.

A limited number of tickets are available. To reserve your tickets now, contact Debbie Bruce by email at:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving opportunity for young children, like my 8 year old son, to finally go to a ball game and to feel safe.

I have emailed Debbie for tickets and have called the moms of other children with anaphylaxis in my community to let them know about the game.

With the support of huge companies/organizations like the Rogers Centre and The Blue Jays Club, perhaps the general public’s level of awareness will greatly improve.

It is important that the public be aware and to care about the growing rise in anaphylaxis reactions. Being a parent of a child with a peanut allergy, I have come across various negative, uncaring responses to the life threatening reaction my son has to peanuts. The support of the Rogers Centre and the Blue Jays Club is so very encouraging. I cannot express how happy I am that this opportunity is being made available for children like my son.

Again, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for recognizing the alterations that society needs to make to accommodate the growing rise in anaphylaxis reactions to nuts and peanuts. Thank you so much.
