Those with food allergies know that candy, especially chocolates, have a high risk of cross contamination. There are several food allergy (peanut and nut free) chocolate and candy companies. Some process milk or seeds or other allergens in their facilities so make sure that you read all ingredients and contact the manufacturer to determine safety for your food allergic child. Here are some places to start.

Divvies The chocolate bunnies are sold out but they still have Jelly beans and other milk, egg, nut and peanut free candies which are safe and delicious!

There’s also peanutfreeplanet.com! I haven’t tried their Easter candy yet, but I contacted them in the fall when I couldn’t find peanut free candy corn. They didn’t have any in stock, but they got some because of my request and it was yummy! Excellent service! I also like the way they post ingredients of many of their products on their website.

Our 3-year-old is severely allergic to peanuts. I have ordered from the VT Nut Free Chocolates website. The treats are always yummy, and my order arrives so quickly! And they have SO many options to choose from, too!

Hi! At Christmas, I discovered another nut free facility that makes big chocolate items like big bunnies. It is www.merlincandies.com and they are based in New Orleans. I found their big chocolate snowman at my local CVS and noticed their big nut free sign on the box. Check them out!

I am so thrilled to find Easter candy for our food allergic daughter. She is 4 and a half and it will be the first time shes’ had a chocolate bunny and chocolate eggs in her Easter basket. Thansk for helping the Easter Bunny! I can’t wait for the order to arrive and to see her face on Easter morning!

I don’t think it’s a good idea to encourage peanut allergic children to eat chocolate regardless of where it has been made. I think children will tend to think that Chocolate is chocolate and that it is all fine. I never once had a chocolate Easter Bunny in my Easter Basket, and I turned out just fine. We create these wishes for our children, not them!

    To Anne:
Chocolate has been proven to have health benefits. My daughter is extremely healthy and health concious, and you have to be the smart parent and teach them how much chocolate is acceptable and also what chocolate is safe!! You must be the PARENT and TEACH them what is safe and to ONLY accept food from you or father. There is nothing wrong with letting your child enjoy a piece of chocolate. TEACH TEACH TEACH!!! You are the parent!
