Safe Snack List! 99 Food Allergy Friendly Treats!
For kids with peanut allergy or other food allergies, there really is NO such thing as a safe candy or safe snack list. Ingredients change, comfort levels, manufacturing practices, and allergies are all different, and there are many sizes and varieties of any given product.
But with Halloween coming, we know you need someplace to start. My allergy friends and I have noticed that there are some “safe” candies and treats we have in common. So consider this the “allergy drawing board”–simply a place to start.
Remember:
You need to check and read EVERY ingredient wrapper. You need to know that small size and Halloween sizes often have different ingredients. For example: small Laffy Taffy has no egg, Large Laffy Taffy does have egg.
You should also know that different versions of the same product have different ingredients. For example: Regular Spree, no egg; Chewy Spree DOES contain egg.
And studies have shown that “may contains” products often DO contain the allergen. Read more here from Dr Scott Sicherer.
So I’m providing this list only as a place to start. It’s up to you to decide if any of these treats are safe for your child.

Some blow pops do have a warning that they may contain milk products. We got the Purple wrapper ones that are grape flavor with a white color coating candy on the outside. I didn’t notice the warning on the normal flavors like cherry. Jen

I thought Blow Pops were NOT safe due to cross contamination at the processing plant.

Some sizes of Lemonheads in our area (Midwest) have an allergy warning for peanuts. Sorry, I don’t recall what size of package contains the warning. We avoid all of them.

WOW! Thanks so much for the extensive suggestion list. The link to the article by Dr. Sicherer about “may contains” was very helpful.

I agree about the allergy for peanuts, some people have to avoid them anyway…

[…] C Communicate Make sure your child’s teacher understands the extent of your child’s allergies. The classroom is a learning environment first and foremost, and should not be contaminated with traces of food if they will endanger your child. When party planning, consider the special dietary needs of all of the children including gluten and casein free diets, diabetes and more. Even with multiple food allergies and restrictions, there are a wide variety of snacks and treats that can be served to all kids safely. […]

I work in a candy store, now are wrapped candies still safe when I know the vendors are not a nut free factory? They make other products containing nuts.

My egg allergic son had hives after eating regular skittles. I looked at the website and they don’ t list ingredients. Errrrrr… So frustrating. Why is it so hard for companies to post their ingredients online? Many of the fun-size candy packages given at Halloween don’t have ingredients.

Please be aware. My daughter tested positive for coconut and Kelloggs uses coconut oil in their fruit chew treats that come in packages with SpongeBob, Dora, Barbie or Disney Princess, but they are not marked as “contains coconut”. My daughter has been given these treats at classroom parties and birthday parties from parents who think they are safe for her. General Mills does not use coconut oil in their fruit chew treats.

Just curious if anyone out there has a child that has reactions to eating Smarties? My 3 yr old grandaughter gets stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea after eating them - from just one of the small rolls. It seems like they are one of the candies recommended for children with various allergires. She does have problems with acid reflux. We have not noticed this kind of reaction from any other candies of foods.

My 7 yr old daughter had a severe allergic reaction to Jujube’s candy. We don’t give her candy and we told her school and teacher not too. Her teacher gave her Jujube’s and within a day and a half our daughters eyes were shut and she had huge welts all over her body that looked like spider bites. What part of don’t give my child candy. Don’t people understand?

unfortunately most of the links don’t work…the sites must change too often.
My daughter is allergic to dairy and eggs and does eat skittles with no problem. I was wondering if anyone knows if she can eat the spongebob marshmallow pop with these allergies? Wish the Kellogs site was correct in saying all allergens must be listed…in our dreams…
I’m so sick of having to call all the 800 #s while food shopping…

Does anyone know if the Marshmallow Peeps are good for those with milk (casein/lactose) and egg allergies? I couldnt’ find the info on their website… Thanks!

My daughter has a severe egg allergy and says she ate a Peep last week and was fine. (milk ???) Although she also ate a small Laffy Taffy last week and was fine. Last night we were at the hospital cause she had a bite of her brothers large one thinking it would be okay. NOT! Didn’t read the ingredients. Thank goodness for epi-pens and prednizone. Anyways, ALWAYS READ THE INGREDIENTS!!! A good lesson for her as she’s 16 now and we are preparing for adulthood.
By the way, we live in Canada, so things maybe different here but I think we import from our southern neighbours.

I pride to be citizen of the world, so I am also hoping that the Hindu’s class system of “Royal(lords) and peasant (commoner)will change”, so the education level will improve together with the knowledge, virtues and economy.
China had forgotten the past history with Japan. The former Premiere Mr. Deng Xiao Ping , when asked by the Japanese premiere about twenty five years ago.” about the return of the northern island back to China.” Mr. Dan replied:” Slow down, we wouldn’t know how the politics of the world is going to be fifty years from now.” Most recently, Mr. Hu said:” We hope Japan will involve in greater part of the affair of the world. We are happy to see the peaceful path Japan takes since the thank you for sharing:)

I was following something else about [url=http://http://www.headphoneonsale.co.uk[/url] on an alternative website. Interesting. Your linear opinion on it is diametrically opposed with what I read in the very first place. I am still wondering over the contrary points of headphones, but I’m leaning to a great extent towards yours. And regardless, that’s what is so incredible about modern day democracy and the market place of opinions on-line.
